South Africa failed by 4 runs to break the ODI batting record of 443 for 9 made by Sri Lanka against the Netherlands on 4 July 2006.
South Africa made 439 for 2 against the West Indies captained by Jason Holder.
Prior to West Indies batting, Holder said "I am just happy that the record still stands".
He also said "We need to bowl a better line and length"
