Kingston, Jamaica - The Jamaica Franchise in the West Indies Cricket Board's Professional League should have a name by the New Year.
So says the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA), whose franchise has no name several weeks after the respective squads were finalised in early October during the inaugural player draft that was held at the Accra Hotel in Barbados.
Since that time, all the franchises have adopted names, the Barbados Pride, the Windward Islands Volcanoes, the Leeward Island Hurricanes, the Guyana Jaguars and the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force. Jamaica is still to come up with a name.
Courtney Francis of the Jamaica Cricket Association explains that there have been challenges in coming up with a name, but that issue is to be addressed in the coming weeks. Francis said the Jamaica Cricket Association is about to launch a social media campaign with the intention of picking a name for the franchise.
The JCA has about 3,000 followers on its Facebook page, and as such, the board members of the Jamaica Franchise will be engaging those followers by having them come up with a name for the franchise.
"The hope is that having the public come up with a name will make them have a connection to the team," Francis explained.
