THIS is what Australian cricket wanted to see.
A smiling Sean Abbott has emerged from the darkest two weeks of his life and is back doing what he does best, taking a bag of wickets in the Sheffield Shield.
Despite concerns over how he would return to cricket after bowling the bouncer that felled Phillip Hughes, the 22-year-old quick bowled wonderfully at the Sydney Cricket Ground today.
Abbott had the incredible figures of 6/14 off seven overs as Queensland was rolled for 99 in its second innings.
He was even on a hat-trick after removing Chris Hartley and Cameron Brimblecombe with consecutive balls but missed out when Luke Feldman survived the next ball.
The remarkable spell secured NSW victory by an innings and 78 runs.
Abbott endured the toughest of preparations as he dealt with Hughes’ death but has shown incredible mental resolve.
Abbott received a standing ovation from the Member’s Stand as he left the ground.
A result looked unlikely going into the final day after the Blues began the day still in the middle on 6-386.
They were eventually dismissed for 447 with an 179-run lead during the morning session.
