a lot more damage takes place on cricket fields than is reported to make us all aware of the volume of what goes on......
I said one life is too many to lose but here we see that it is not only one life at all...but just the one we had heard of up to then. there are more I am sure.
it is either to develop a competent helmet or outlaw short pitched bowling..especially the bouncer. force the fast bowler to develop his brains along with his physical skills to take wickets.
I love that aspect of the game..like yesterday in the Kiwi/Pak test whats his name shoulders arm, leg outside off, well protected in his own mind... only for a Trent Boult break-back to knock his off stump out of the ground ::LOL:: ::LOL:: ::LOL:: ::LOL:: ::LOL::
shades of Wasim Akram! Sweet indeed

Mappippee,
I have only been hit on the thighs as I do not wear a guard.
I too have face some exceptional bowlers and technique and awareness enabled me to stay safe.
The question is how have techniques been compromised with teh false security of helmets?
I recall body blows but batsment of the past had good enough techniques.
In terms of adopting a baseball type helmet, I have no problem with that should it prove practicable.
It is not going to happen overnight but I am sure some changes woudl come out of this trajedy.
Nothing could ahve saved Hughes as the Big Man called him!

my argument is that the sense of security wud not be false but real, had they made a good helmet from the go.
my argument is that that they have a skull cap deh call a helmet and sell it fuh money..attest to my point that deh knew better had to know better..and if they did not and wanted to know better there are examples around of the construction of use of helmets that could have guided them. it was not as f deh began from scratch..that no one in the world had ever made a help before.
deh in fact making helmets sine men start to fight in wat we call war. big stone flying all over the place. arrow, javelin and all kinda wood too! is eidah yuh fin' something to cover yuh head or you go get lick dong.
the people who make cricket helmet judged by what deh make are eidah stupid them..or GREEDY! and deh doh care about what happen to cricketers..only the chingle in deh pockets

Mappippee,
Did man man make anything perfect from the go?
That simply does not happen.
Do you think it is easier for a batsman to face a pitcher at 90 mph on the full or a bowler coming off a surface?
I do not have a definitive answer for that as I have not played any baseball.
If the former is easier, it might help explain why there have been little or no equipment fatalities!
