in 150 years of short pitch deliveries, I can only find references to 2 or 3 deaths directly attributable to being hit on the head by short pitched balls. There have been numerous injuries, but even then they are only a minute percentage of number of batsmen that have played the game over the last 150 years, and so the element of risk is minuscule.
