Hope none of Windies players 'get a lash' from Steyn, Philander or Morne .....and that the ICC do fast track this. However, I'm sure Cricket Australia will investigate this matter pronto and set the wheels in motion.

What about helmets similar to those worn by Ice hockey players ?? ...... designed to withstand the force of a flying puck.
Well after a bit of digging, following the ice hockey helmet line, I discovered that this apparently goes back even further than 2011 .... way back to 2002 (12 years ago) British Journal of Sports Medicine .... in an evaluation of the cricket helmet and comparisons with baseball and ice hockey helmets.

Conclusions: The test method used for baseball helmets in which the projectile is fired at the helmet may be superior to helmet drop tests.
Cricket helmet performance is satisfactory for low speed impacts, but not for impacts at higher, more realistic, speeds.
Baseball and ice hockey helmets offer slightly better relative and absolute performance at the 27 m/s ball and puck impacts.

The solution is simple: use helmets designed for Baseball. Much stronger, better protection and similar in usage. There is no need to reinvent; use what is already available. Here is a study that was done in 2002 that concluded "Cricket helmet performance is satisfactory for low speed impacts, but not for impacts at higher, more realistic, speeds. Baseball and ice hockey helmets offer slightly better relative and absolute performance at the 27 m/s ball and puck impacts." - Cricket hierarchy ignored studies like these, now we see the result.
