Jamaica Star article.
Kingston, Jamaica - Jamaica Franchise captain Tamar Lambert has called on batsmen in the team to look into themselves as they prepare to take on Barbados Pride, on Friday, in the second round of the WICB four-day Professional League.
The comments follow the Jamaicans nail-biting 13-run win over the Windwards Volcanoes at Sabina Park yesterday.
Jamaica, after making a modest 208 in their first innings, were bowled out for 162 in their second, thus setting the visitors, who had earlier made 110 in their first innings, a competitive victory target of 261.
However, thanks to a seven-wicket haul from leg-spinner Damion Jacobs, the Windwards were restricted to 247 late on day three.
"We as batsmen have to look into ourselves as we have in recent years been struggling to close out games," said Lambert.
"To have a lead of 98, and coming back to score 160-odd, brought back the Windwards into the game."
Lambert, who saw Jamaica fail to lift the four-day title for the past two seasons, in the meanwhile, was full of praise for his bowlers.
Pacer David Bernard Jr, two for 20, and spinner Nikita Miller, two for 51, were next best to Jacobs, who was claiming his second five-wicket haul in as many matches.
Jacobs picked up eight for 47 and two for 25, to lead Jamaica to victory over the Windwards in the consolation Headley and Weekes Trophy Challenge last season.
