Mark Ramprakash is set to be appointed as England batting coach this week, according to media reports on Monday. Ramprakash, 45, has been tipped to be Graham Gooch's successor after the former England opener was axed earlier this year.

It seems as though Thorpe would have been the first choice but his reluctance to go on long tours lead England to choosing Ramps. Hopefully he fares better as an England coach than he did as a Test batsman.
