The fund raising cricket match between an Upper Corentyne Cricket Association invitational XI and the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) was successfully staged on Sunday last at the No69 Vikings Ground.
The UCCA XI made sure that the defended their turf successfully when they won the encounter by six wickets.
Winning the toss and deciding to take first strike the visiting GCC team were dismissed for 204 in 43.3 of the allotted 45overs. Batting for the visitors, Captain Jeetendra Sookdeo led from in front with a classy 102 (12×4). Apart from Sookdeo only Elon Fernandes with 39 (4×4, 1×6) offered any real support as they put together 80 for the third wicket.
Bowling for UCCA XI Sean Perreira with 4-36 and Kennard Kamdeen 2 were the main wicket takers.
The UCCA XI in reply were off to a very good start with openers Shimron Hetmyer and Akash Homraj blazing to 112 in 16 overs before they were separated. National player Shimron Hetmyer hammered a quick fire 92 (11×4, 1×6) and Homraj made 34 (4×4). Imran Mohamed 29, Lakeram Latchman 19 not out and captain Ishwar Singh 15 not out steered their team home in 31.3 overs.
Bowling for GCC, Sookdeo returned with the ball to finish with 2 wickets.
The winning team was presented with their trophy and cash incentives by President of the UCCA Dennis D’Andrade. D’Andrade thanked both teams for coming forward to play the match and GCC for offering them the opportunity to participate in the game.
The two teams will clash in a return fixture shortly.
