Dubai: Yuvraj Singh, out of selectors’ favour at the moment, said he “flourished” the most under Sourav Ganguly who is also his favourite among the captains he played under.

Speaking to an Indian newspaper, the senior all-rounder touched subjects on and off the field, especially his recovery from a life-threatening cancer and his career in cricket.

While saying that recuperation from lung cancer was the most tough phase of his life off the field, Yuvraj admitted that his career on the field flourished when Ganguly was his captain.

“My favourite captain was Sourav Ganguly. I learnt a lot from him and my career flourished under him the most. He infused the feeling in us that we could win a series abroad.

The Punjab batsman added that he “excelled” under India’s World Cup-winning coach Gary Kirsten. “He was a great coach. I excelled while he was the coach,” Yuvraj said.

One of the best stroke-player produced by India, Yuvraj also reserved praise for current India captain M.S. Dhoni, saying there’s no need to replace him as he’s doing a commendable job in all three formats.

“I think Dhoni is doing the job quite well at the moment. He has been instrumental in many India wins. He is fit enough to do the job in all three formats — then why make the change? He has done a commendable job when it comes to captaining India,” Yuvraj said.

When asked to comment on Virat Kohli and his long lean patch before the West Indies series, Yuvraj asked: “Where were the critics when Virat was shining and doing everything right?”
