Georgetown, Guyana - Cotton Tree Die Hard defeated Monedderlust of No 5, West Berbice by 190 runs in their final Zone B preliminary match of the 2014 New Building Society Second Division 40 Over Cricket Competition in Berbice to end unbeaten and clear winner of that Zone, thus advancing to the last 16 playoffs.
Leading them to their big win were, firstly, Iswar Singh who slammed 62 (7 fours and 2 sixes), Permaul Singh with 57 (4 four and 4 sixes) and Abdul Subhan with 42 which helped them post 320 for 9 in 35 overs, their second score over 300 runs, having scored 316 for 6 in 35 overs against D’Edward Warriors. Chesney however holds the record for the highest score in an innings so far in this year’s competition with 321 for 6 in 35 overs against Jai Hind. When Monedderlust replied, Cotton Tree off spinner Romesh Boodram took 5 for 25 from 6.4 to bowl them out for 130.
Despite pacer Jermaine Henry taking 4 for 11 and former Guyana cricketer Hubern Evans scoring 53, both for defending champions Young Warriors, Police defeated them to end their preliminary Zone E match unbeaten and on top to earn a place in the playoffs.
Vishal Mohabir slammed 80 (7 fours and 5 sixes) to steer Young and Restless of Reliance Abandon to a 136 run win over Reliance Strykers.
After No 43 Scorpion did well to bowl out No 55 Mayflower for 98, in their reply, they were skittled out for 77 compliments off No 55 opening pacer Mahadeo Anand who took 6 for 10 from 5 overs.
