The WICB has a very pig-headed, egotistical, arrogant, stupid way of management.
This whole situation could have been resolved or avoided by:
1. The WICB not putting a puppet in the WIPA
2. The WICB issuing a polite statement to the players stating clearly that the player fees will remain as they are and that the matter would be re-discussed and re-negotiated after the India tour.
3. The WICB drew up a plan to pay regional players via their own bloated salaries (and the bloated salaries of coaches etc), subsidies from local governments, T20 games, advertising and brand rights and other means. I don't believe the WICB is so poor it needs to cut 75 percent of the international players' salaries.
4. The WICB's plan to implement shifting salaries based on PLAYER PERFORMANCE is a great idea - God knows our players dont perform well enough to deserve the kind of cash they're raking in - but you cannot spring this on the current international team unless you have a good crop of hungry back-up players to take the current players' places should they hate the new payment structure. This is tactically stupid by the WICB.
5. Bravo, who is otherwise an idiot, did the right thing by striking during a high profile series. The WICB arrogantly called their bluff. Bravo and the team knew that had they striked after the India tour, the WICB would threaten to fire all their butts and replace them with other players.
6. The WICB's plan to pay regional players better is a good idea, but I suspect this is just a ploy to cut costs and so rake in bigger profits elsewhere.
7. I believe the international players would be willing to take MINOR pay cuts, that they are reasonable and not selfish, if the WICB could conclusively prove that the funds are going to useful areas and that the WICB implements a plan to pay international players well for good performances.
8. Chanderpaul. Every damn issue in the world can be resolved with more Chanderpaul.
