The opening day of the latest round of action in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Hadi’s

two-day first division cricket was highlighted by several outstanding performances and some shockingly atrocious cricket by GYO at the DCC ground in Queenstown.
Brian Sattuar maiden first division century, half-centuries from First-Class players Derwin Christian, Chris Barnwell and two five-wicket haul from national pacer Paul Wintz insured DCC blew away GYO by an innings and 286 runs inside one day of their one-sided match.
Taignarine Chanderpaul hit his second division-one hundred and has so far shared in a double century third wicket stand with Demerara wicket Keeper Joseph Perry who also registered an unfinished ton as Everest batted all day yesterday and lost just two wickets against GNIC at Everest.
At Bourda a hostile spell of fast bowing from West Indies ‘A’ pacer Ronsford Beaton who captured 6-13 on his debut for GCC and a solid 78 from National under-19 player Renaldo Ali-Mohamed put GCC in a commanding position against Transport Sports Club (TSC) going into today’s final day at Bourda.
And Pernell London’s unbeaten 76 and two late afternoon wickets from left-arm spinner Anthony Adams left Police in a good position against host Malteenoes despite another five-wicket haul from Guyana U-19 leg-spinner Steven Sankar.
At the small DCC ground, the 18-year-old Sattuar launched in brutal attack on the shell shocked GYO bowled as sixes rained way out of the ground as the left-hander hit 21 sixes and 12 explosive fours in a pugnacious 189 in 22 overs.
Sattaur, who eventually fell to a catch on the mid wicket boundary to give Trevon France his second wicket, added 176 with Tevon Imlack (20) and 101 with Christian (75) after Trevon Griffith missed out on the feast with a first-ball duck.
Sattuar at one point seemed capable of passing the record first division of 315 by David Harper for Everest and becoming the first batsman since Rajendra Chandrika (214) against TSC last year to score a ‘double’. The burly Sattuar however passed the 178 against Police made by Griffith against Police as DCC amassed 403- declared.
Wintz had earlier snatched 5-29, while Barnwell had 3-16 as GYO were bundled out for 91 with only Garfield DeRouch getting to double figures with 35.
Wintz struck again in GYO’s second innings bagging 5-18 as they crashed to the lowest total in recent first division history to finish on 38-9 innings closed after GYO fielding for most of DCC’s innings with 10 men after Kwame Cross was sent off the field for giving advice to the Captain.
At Everest, Chanderpaul hit 14 fours in his 125 after Chandrika (7) and Chanderpaul Hemraj (24) were the wickets to fall before Perry (102) joined Chanderpaul and batted to the end of the day. Shiv Chanderpaul, who makes his debut for Everest, is slated to bat next as Everest reached 271-2.
At Bourda TSC were dismissed for 65 with Ryan Hemray making 39 and Raj Nanan (4-9) supporting Beaton before GCC replied with 203-8 declared with Kevin Cross picking up three wickets.
TSC were 133-3 in their second innings still 138 runs from avoiding an innings defeat with Devon Nandan (49) and Hemraj (42) offering resistance as Nanan had 3-57.
At MSC, Police fell for 187 with Steven Jacobs and Kellon Carmichael taking two wickets each to support Sankar (5-67). The host ended the opening day on 66-4 after Shemron Barrington (9) fell to Darson LaRose who bowled with some pace on a helpful track with the score on 19.
Vishal Narayan (20) and Jacobs (11) tried to stage a recovery before they were both removed just before the close by Adams who had 2-11.
