Saturday, October 11, 2014 - Mumbai—The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has claimed that the players’ new payment structure had been discussed in “good spirit†and was “properly negotiatedâ€.
Dave Cameron, the president of the WICB, speaking over telephone from Jamaica yesterday night (India time), said, “there is no crisis at our end. The terms of payment to the players were properly negotiated and decided with their association representatives and it has been well documentedâ€.
“I wonder why players now say they are unaware about the sameâ€.
Wavell Hinds, the president of the West Indies Players’ Association refused to take calls. He, however, is likely to arrive in India later this month, confirmed the Board chief. His tickets have also been booked along with few WICB officials, it is learnt here.
FICA willing to intervene
“This is a matter between WIPA and the West Indies players, but FICA would like to assist them to resolve it if possible. But first we have to understand the issue from both ends. The West Indies are playing at the moment so perhaps we will have a clearer idea of the full picture in the next day or twoâ€, Tony Irish, the FICA chief said from South Africa, minutes after his arrival from London.
“It is the duty of WIPA to act in the best interests of, and support, the collective of its playersâ€, he further added.
“We will only make decisions on whether or not to intervene when we know the fullpictureâ€, he signed off.
In the meantime, the FICA chief had a meeting with the the ICC chairman N. Srinivasan in London on Wednesday, when the ICC’s CEO David Richardson was also present. Srinivasan is being suspended by the Supreme Court of India as BCCI president till the Mudgal committee completes its IPL probe.
“Our meeting will hopefully be the start of constructive dialogue with the ICC on various player related issuesâ€, Irish added.
