“We felt having a player of the calibre of Sarwan in our side would be invaluable to our squad which includes a number of young players,†said Red Force coach Gus Logie.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

Well some franchise chose to stay at home like Jamaica but it was nice to see others choosing players from other territories. Good pick by Trinidad to get Sarwan. I hope this new professional format will result in the fans watching more test cricket and the players will be better equip to play international test cricket.

I think the LIs missed a trick here to develop their team, allow better competition whilst allowing their younger players to develop but I am not surprised for the 1st instalment of the draft system.
Subject to correction, I think next year will be a free for all so we await to see how that pans out.
However in fact Guyana finished below LIs last season and their finishing position for the preceding 4 years are 5th, 4th, 8th and 6th joint last with LIs, so would you say Guyana should have used the draft system a bit more?
I am not surprised both Jamaica and BIM stayed within their franchises as they have either won or been close to the title over recent years so I see no reason for them to draft from other franchises, do you?
I would say part of the purpose of the initiative are to allow the best players to play where needed so I agree LIs, having finished 6,7,7,7,6 over the last 5 years needed more help.
Perhaps there should be some compulsion on the teams finishing in the bottom 2 or 3 to draft 3-4 players in.

I am not sure the purpose of the draft is understood, as might be reasonable for the first year but whilst it enables players to move around, it is not the prime reason, as suggested.
As I said above they need to introduce some compulsion on the bottom 2-3 teams as there is no reason why Guyana and particularly LIs should not have sort 3-4 players, at least, from other franchises.
As it stand they have both chosen a pool of players who have enabled their failures and that is the problem.
It has nothing to do with the idea was mooted some years ago or not. The fact it has happened means there is a will to make it happen and you will now get used to the idea so in the next 2-3 years I expect the concept to settle in.
Fringe players whose places have been taken from draftees from other franchises would have had to use their omission as a great motivator. This is the purpose in part.
So this is less to do about eroding nationality rather having the best players play. In an environment where all/ most players are in a draft pool, it would be interesting to see how that works.

Anyhoo : some Islands wanna specialise in the 50 Over.
Some the 20.
Hardly any interest in the 4 Day : as we see from the ABSENCE of the DRAFT !
Cricket is evolving
