West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard feels that although Chris Gayle’s absence in the ODI series will be a factor but someone in the team will have to stand up and be counted in crunch situations.

“Of course (it will have an impact). Chris has been there for over 10 years now. He has been one of our main players, one of our main batsmen. Yes, it is going to leave a hole. Yes it is going to leave a gap but life goes on,” Pollard told reporters during an interaction ahead of West Indies’ tour opener against India ‘A’ on Friday.

In the last year of ODI's, Gayle's average is just 16.75 (in admittedly a small sample size of 4 matches) with a high score of 58.

I really don't think Gayle's absence will be a big factor against India. The Indian bowlers seem to have worked out Chris Gayle and if he had played then I don't think he would average 30 runs for the series.  Gayle not being there might be a blessing in disguise for the top order.
