JOHANNESBURG - Nigeria, Ghana and Zambia, these are teams not normally associated with cricket.
But these African nations along with Seychelles, Mozambique and Swaziland are all featuring in an ICC tournament in South Africa for division 2 players.
The winners of the tournament will be promoted to division 1 in Africa.
Tournaments like the ICC's Division 2 T20 aim to promote cricket on the continent.
Nigeria and Ghana’s cricketing officials highlighted the same issue when asked why they do not feature globally.
The winners of this tournament will get an opportunity to better their cricket and play against more experienced opposition.
The ICC was there to oversee the tournament.
Dev Govindjee an ICC match referee believes more emphasis needs to be placed on developing the youth in African cricket.
For African cricket to grow government backing is imperative.
Countries need to develop effective facilities to hone the skills of the young and to ensure there's coaching at grassroots level.
Many officials believe that the youth is key if we are to see African teams participate on the international stage.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
