After Butts you would expect a legend like Lloyd to be a bit more visionary, innovative, balanced and all the things fans have been calling for.
I think he is screwing up in quite a big way and your views would be welcomed.
Amongst what I feel he has got terribly wrong are
1. Holder has gone backwards as a bowler. He has neither improved his speed nor his accuracy as a bowler and, although he can bat, he is not good enough to get into ODIs. So Lloyd select him for Lanka.
2. Blackwood after a very good start to his test career has been demoted to the A tour and Johnson only after 1 test get in ahead of him. As it happens I think Johnson should should be in the squad but not ahead of Blackwood. Even Blackwood's FC stats are far superior to that of Johnson, so why Lloyd?
3. Sammy? Enough said!
4. Smith after 91 ODIs average 17. Why?
5. Samuels has been mediocre for the vast majority of his test career and Lloyd recalls him.
6. I was in favour of Shiv preserving himself for tests but the man has shown no decrease in his appetite, fitness and eagerness to play ODIs. Why has Lloyd not spoken to him with a brief of opening and a brief to bat through?
What is Lloyd really doing? Is he less of a yes man than Butts?

CHECK SHIV'S TEST STATS SINCE HE WAS DROPPED FROM THE ONEDAY TEAM IN MARCH 2011
LINK to stats
* Did you see that AVERAGE ?
* 74.88 since March 2011.
* According to Sean devers, Shiv is the fittest player in the West Indies team today.
* Forget about world cup and onedayers---let Shiv focus 100% on tests and on scoring a minimum of 13500 test runs----that would make him the 2nd highest test scorer after Tendulkar.
* Shiv recently said he intends to play as long as long as possible. Hopefully that will be a minimum of 3 to 5 years.

Listen Mail!
* Clive Lloyd is 70 years old. His vision for the future of WI cricket is blurred. The way I see it is Lloyd will be collecting pension money with his 2 year stint as selector.
* The WI are currently ranked #8 in tests and #8 in onedayers. After Lloyd's tenure as Chief selector is over, there is a good chance the WI will remain ranked #8 in both versions of the game.
* Just enjoy seeing your favorite players perform. Don't expect miracles from the #8 ranked WI.

So, from what you say Rev, Lloyd is probably worse than Butts?
I am surprised isn't anyone else?
Chair of selectors is a key function and if that is screwed up, once again, the best team is not being selected.

i feel johnson is being given a chance to adjust to indian conditions for the tests.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

Krish,
So could Blackwood as the ODIs are good preparations.
I think Johnson has shaped up well but he has done nothing to place himself ahead of Blackwood.
That said I think he did well enough, albeit against Bangladesh, to be given a shot ahead of Smith, Sammy and Samuels.
But the question is Lloyd up to this job? If he is screwing up immediately you will be entering worse doom than under Butts.
The only defence I can offer on Lloyd's behalf is wants experience in the team but you do not select experienced failures. I might be pushed to accept Samuels but Sammy and Smith.
Lose with giving the likes of Blackwood exposure and an opportunity not guys who have a long track record of proven failure.
I think so far Lloyd's decisions is far worse than anything Butts ever did.

So based on the 6 points I made what are your views?
Are you saying you support his decisions?

Seriously? What is there to build when you select Sammy, Smith and Samuels?
