Let us take a look at the batting averages of subcontinent(India/Pakistan/Sri Lanka/Bangladesh) batsmen against non subcontinent(Australia/England/South Africa/New Zealand/West Indies) teams.
53.48 Mohamed Yousuf
53.51 Matthews
50.68 Miandad
50.59 Tendulkar's average in 141 tests against non subcontinent teams
49.90 Dravid
49.55 Jayawardene
48.90 Gavaskar
45.65 Sangakkara's average in 72 tests against non sub continent teams
OBSERVATION:
* Only 1 Indian batsman in history has averaged 50+ versus non subcontinent teams.
* The statistical great Kumat Sangakkara whose overall test average is 58+ has been pretty ordinary against non subcontinent teams averaging only 45+ in 72 tests.

Well this just goes to show that the sub-continent teams, notably India have always had a problem with the genuine fast bowlers of the non-subcontintent. India has never really dominated the world of test cricket and they are not famous for playing extreme fast bowling well. Still laugh when I think how the West Indies made them gave up at Sabina Park because the pace bowling was too much for them.

And Folks keep arguing about Strike Rate on Day 2 during a 5 day match
Kumar should have pull a Shiv and " tekk yuh Time " .
That mediocre 45 average would have been in line to 50+ !

The numbers don't lie. Subcontinent batsmen have historically struggled against non subcontinent teams. Only 4 subcontinent batsmen have averaged 50+ against non subcontinent teams---Yousuf, Miandad, Matthews and Tendulkar.

Close but no cigar :-[
Meaning : Fall just short of a successful outcome and get nothing for your efforts.
