GROS ISLET, St Lucia, CMC – Openers Leon Johnson and Kraigg Brathwaite gathered half-centuries but fell before tea as Bangladesh fought back on the opening day of the second Test here today.
Johnson stroked 66 on debut and Brathwaite hit 63 as West Indies reached 153 for two at the break at the Beausejour Cricket Ground.
The pair put on 143 for the first wicket before being separated when Brathwaite slapped an innocuous short delivery from seamer Shafiul Islam to Taijul Islam at point.
Three overs later, left-hander Johnson missed a forward prod at left-arm spinner Taijul and was adjudged lbw, with the score on 145 for two.
At the break, Kirk Edwards was five and was accompanied by Darren Bravo on four.
With West Indies on 61 without loss at lunch, Johnson and Brathwaite showed more urgency in the second session to complete their half-centuries.
Overall, Johnson faced 162 balls in 227 minutes at the crease and struck five fours and a six – a lovely stroke over long-off off Taijul which brought up the Windies 100.
Brathwaite, meanwhile, batted just over 3-1/2 hours, faced 150 balls and counted five fours.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

Leon just interviewed and he said Kirk told him if he did indeed think it was outside :
and Leon also felt it was high !....but the Ump said time expire.
He has now learnt : and it will not happen again !

I thought this was a good debut, considering it was Bangladesh.
West indies have had two good debuts in Blackwood and Johnson.
I have seen little of Johnson but he looked quite composed and wanting to get runs.
I would now give Johnson a run but he will have the sternest of tests which will reveal what he is made of.
I would give Blackwood a 5.75 and Johnson 5 out of 10 for good debuts.
I would dispense with Kirk, just for now, and let Johnson open or go in at 3 as that is a troubled position for the Windies.
Well done to the lad.
