St John's, Antigua - Leeward Islands wicketkeeper batsman and Antigua Hawksbills’ Devon “Booby†Thomas is out of hospital and recovering well following a one car smash-up late Thursday afternoon.
The former West Indies player was slated to undergo final scans at a private clinic on Friday after his white Honda Integra careened off the road and into a ditch just outside of Pares Village.
During an interview with Daily Observer, Thomas said he lost control of the vehicle while attempting to maneuver around another driver.
“I was driving up the road, going at good speed. I tried to overtake and think I steered away a bit too hard and I slid across the road just above Pares. They (doctors) say they are going to check first and then they can adjust but at the moment I can say if I am going to be out of cricket and for how long,†he said.
Thomas was reportedly thrown several feet from the car as a result of the accident.
President of the Antigua & Barbuda Cricket Association (ABCA), Zorol Barthley, said he had been in contact with the player following the accident which happened sometime after 4p.m. on Thursday.
Barthley said the player should recover quickly as his injuries did not appear life threatening.
The Cricket boss wished the all-rounder a speedy recovery.
