Georgetown, Guyana - He plies his trade with the Young Warriors Cricket Club, East Canje Berbice, and has built quite a reputation for himself among a few elite players to have scored centuries at the Regional U-19 level among other meritorious achievements.
His feats were recently noted and Shimron Hetmyer, has clinched a lucrative sponsorship deal after overseas based Guyanese, Krishna Appiah, of Bronx New York and Ravi Etwaroo, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cricket Zone and Trophy World, Castle Hill, Bronx New York, noted his achievements and agreed to sponsor the youth with gears and other types of support for the advancement of his career.
The deal was brokered by Captain of the ‘B’ Division Cricket team, Police Sergeant, Michael Newland, who observed Hetmyer’s discipline and work ethics over the years and admitted that he has been tremendously impressed.
Mr. Newland said that he noted the young cricketer’s potential the first time he saw him in action. The cricket captain said that after noting the absence of tangible support for the youth player, he decided to contact Appiah who readily agreed to the sponsorship deal.
Consequently, Mr. Newland handed over the first tranche of support, a cricket bat and a pair of batting gloves, to Hetmyer at a simple ceremony at the Central Police Station, New Amsterdam, Friday afternoon last. The deal also entails that Hetmyer receives uniform and other equipment over time.
Hetmyer arrived at the Central Police Station accompanied by his father, former all-round cricketer and GuySuCo Sports Officer, Gladstone Hetmyer, to receive the gift. He expressed gratitude to his benefactor even as the senior Hetmyer echoed similar sentiments.
Also witnessing the presentation were Assistant Superintendent, Guy Nurse, Inspector Seseupaul Jagroop and Acting President of the Berbice Cricket Board and Young Warriors Cricket Club, Anil Beharry. The gentlemen all expressed gratitude to the sponsors while extending best wishes and congratulations to Hetmyer.
