Albion are Anirudh Ramcharitar 50-Over champs -defeat Police by 85 runs in final

Albion captured the 2013 Ramcharitar Construction first division 50-over knockout cricket title in Berbice, defeating Police by 85 runs in the final on Sunday last, a game that was reduced to 45 overs due to a late start.
Led by 41 from West Indies left-hander Narsingh Deonarine and 40 each from Jonathan Foo and Anthony Bramble, Albion fell for 179 in 39.2 overs with Andel Doris capturing 5-51 from his nine overs.
The Cops, were off to a sedate start scoring at under three runs per over in the first 10 overs before being dismissed for 94 in 31.2 overs. Davendra Bishoo took 3-11 from five overs, Veerasammy Permaul 2-12 from six overs and man-of-the match Narsingh Deonarine 2-30 from seven overs; bowling the Central Corentyne side to championship honors.

Albion were asked to bat first and quickly lost their opening batsman, Kandasammy Surujnarine (2) in the third over to pacer Michael Newland with only three runs on the board. West Indies batsmen, Sewnarine Chattergoon and Deonarine tried to repair to early damage with a 27-run partnership before off-spinner, Rocky Hutson got rid of Chattergoon (16) at 30-2.
Deonarine continued to play in enterprising fashion and he found a useful partner in former Guyana T20 player Foo with the pair putting on 64 in 8.5 overs before Foo was trapped in-front to Doris after reaching the boundary four times and clearing it once. Deonarine then had his stumps disturbed by the impressive Doris, 20 runs later.
National wicket-keeper batsman, Anthony Bramble, and Verapen Permaul put on 37 in the next six overs before Doris stuck three quick body blows with the wickets of Bramble (40), Permaul ( and West Indies leg spinner, Devendra Bishoo ( to reduce the hosts to 168-7 before they were eventually bowled out with 4.4 overs remaining in their innings.
The Police openers put on 28 in the first 10 overs but the introduction of leg-spinner Bishoo proved fatal when he removed Woolford (18), Andrews (11) and Philbert Willburg for a duck in his first three overs to put up the road blocks early in the chase, reducing the Cops to 37-3.
Off-spinner Deonarine picked up a wicket in his second over as Police slipped to 42-4 in the 17th over before Albert Sinclair and Rocky Hutson gave Police a glimmer of hope with a fighting 21-run fifth wicket stand before Sinclair was LBW Deonarine for 15.
Hutson and Kwesi Mickle threatened to stage a grand escape from their captives clutches with a 20-run sixth wicket partnership which in the end proved too little, too late. Hutson soon attempted an ill-advised reverse sweep off West Indies Under-19 left arm spinner Gudakesh Motie and was trapped LBW for 16 at 84-6 to end the resistance, left arm spinner, Veerasammy Permaul picked up two quick wickets while a couple of run-outs ensured the handcuffs were kept on the Lawmen.
Cash incentives and trophies valued at over $80,000 were handed over at the presentation ceremony. In a new initiative by the BCB, all winners of the Board’s first division competitions will clash with the Rest of Berbice in specially arranged matches. These matches will be used to raise funds for the Board and serve as practice for the players. Albion will tackle the Rest of Berbice tomorrow at Albion from 09:00hrs.
