Jonathan Foo continued his good form in the second Berbice 50-over senior Inter-County trial match yesterday at Albion Sports Complex, following up his 67 in the first game on Tuesday by falling one short of a century.
In a match reduced to 30 overs a side due to heavy overnight rain, Narsingh Deonarine won the toss and inserted Anthony Bramble’s X1 to take first strike. They lost two early wickets when Verapen Permaul (
and Joemal LaFleur (9) departed in quick succession before the pugnacious Foo joined Seon Hetmyer and together they flayed the bowling to all parts of the ground.
The 23 year-old Foo, who played three Regional One-Day matches for Guyana in addition to 17 T20s, missed out on his century when he was removed on 99 decorated with six sixes and four fours.
Hetmyer, whose only century for Guyana came in the 2008 Under-19 series in Barbados, scored 36 as he played second fiddle to the rampant Foo. Skipper Bramble contributed 20 as his team ended on 200-5 from their allotted 30 overs.
Devon Clements took two wickets for Deonarine’s X1 which made 129 all out to lose by 71 runs despite a top score of 33 from Kandasammy Surujnarine and 22 from Romario Shepherd. Bowling for Bramble’s XI Steven Latcha captured 3-20 and Shawn Perriera 2 for 23
