West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul’s future as Derbyshire’s overseas player is in doubt.
The 40-year-old left-hander completed his second stint with Derbyshire, his fourth county, without taking up the option of the third year of his contract.
Chanderpaul is understood to be waiting to discover whether he will be retained as a centrally-contracted player before deciding on his future.
But Derbyshire are also considering their overseas options and may opt for an Australian batsman who does not make the squad for next summer’s Ashes series instead.
Derbyshire signed Chanderpaul on a two-year contract in the hope that he would keep them in the first division of the County Championship.
They were relegated last September, however, and Chanderpaul has managed to turn only one of a number of promising starts for Derbyshire into a century and that came against Surrey in May last year…

That is probably true but his previous spells were much shorter and some time ago when he was at his best.
I would be surprised if Derby would be desperate to get Tiger's signature.
Whether tiger gets a central contract or not, (he should if he has agreement he will be selected and by virtue of service......think about your own jobs guys) I am not convinced any other counties would be rushing to him.
Tiger should get a central contract for the coming year in my view.

Derbyshire have agreed to terms with Cheteshwar Pujara that will allow him to play the final three Championship fixtures of the season.

IMO, Pujara, Kohli, et al should have all joined up with a county team prior to the Test series to get some experience on playing English wickets.
