It has been six days since the Limacol Caribbean Premier League Twenty20 final and the Guyana Amazon Warriors are still seeking answers.

The Amazon Warriors wrote to the CPL requesting a review of the decisions made by the umpires and match referee up to the point when the final was called off and the Barbados Tridents crowned champions thanks to an eight-run Duckworth-Lewis victory.

The final was played at Warner Park in St Kitts last Saturday under overcast conditions. Rain forced three stoppages when the Tridents were asked to bat first but not overs were taken off and the Barbados-based franchise posted 152 for six off their 20 overs. The Warriors, led by Trinidad and Tobago’s Denesh Ramdin, replied with 107 for four off 15.5 overs when another shower forced the players off.

Although the rain stopped and the covers were taken off, the match never restarted. At that stage the Guyana Amazon Warriors needed 46 runs off 25 balls with six wickets in hand.

According to the CPL in response to an Express inquiry, “the tournament committee is reviewing the decision of the match referee and we expect a full report from it imminently.”

Guyana Amazon Warriors manager Omar Khan confirmed that they were informed that their request was sent to the CPL technical committee for review, but up to yesterday, they were still awaiting some answers.

Khan also clarified that “it is not a protest, it is a request to review the circumstances under which the match was called off.

“They sent it to their technical committee for review...At least let us know what were the conditions that led to the decision to call off the game,” he said.

“We are contending that there was time to continue the game and the umpires and match referee were not urgent enough and did not pay specific attention to the need to complete the game,” Khan explained. If there are any grounds for contesting it, then we will contest it,” he added.
