* You notice Shiv did not score a hundred in the test series against NZ----playing at HOME ?
* These were Shiv's scores in that series: 84*, 24, 47, 15 and 25
* The truth is SHIV GETTING OLD.
* We'd all like to see him surpass Lara's 11,953
but with those lame as$ scores he made against NZ----if he continues with those kind of scores----the Rev would be the first to say DROP HIM.
* It's called HIGHER STANDARDS Googs.

Remember Sanath Jayasuriya..?
He played till the age of 43,so shiv can play and surpass many records,but he is wise enough to know when to declare,after all,he has built up a career for himself,so he knows when its best to call it curtains..

That's cool, but its only numbers, and both Sangakkara and Lara are Great players in their own right. For me though Brian Lara is right up there amongst the best. And don't forget that there are a lot more matches played now and its easier to accumulate a total now. Had Lara been batting at times like this, he would have been way over that number.

Lara is the only attacking player at the top of the Highest Runs Aggregate list (as more cricket games are being played, he'll probably be bumped off the top 10 within a decade).
Dravid, Kallis, Sanggas, Steve Waugh, Chanders...these are all slow accumulators. Tendulkar and Ponting are faster and better than all these accumulator type guys, but in tests also strike in the 50s and weren't as destructive as Lara.
Personally, I always prefer attacking Test players (Viv, Pietersen, Kanhai). There's something more romantic about them.

* Brian Lara is the only batsman in history to score over 10,000 test runs at a 50+ average and a 60+ strike rate.
* Sure you'll have slow pokes like Shiv surpass Lara in terms of runs scored, but I have just listed the reason above why Lara is an extraordinary great.

I am sorry to hear that lara will be surpassed by Sangakkara but nevertheless he is still one of the greatest batsmen of all times. No other cricketer has managed to score a quadruple century in a test match. Lara is exciting to watch when he was in his prime. Other players like Sangakkara are good but they lack the flair and elegance of a Lara.
