James Anderson is England's best pace bowler in home conditions since Sir Ian Botham but must cut out sledging to be regarded as a true great, says former England batsman Geoffrey Boycott.
Anderson, 32, is just 12 wickets behind Botham's tally of 383 Test wickets.
"In English conditions, Anderson is as good a fast-medium bowler as there has been and the best England have had since Sir Ian Botham," Boycott said.
But he is in danger of being remembered as a "foul-mouthed abusive bowler".
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

I think that is a fair comment. I mean the skill that Anderson has shown in swinging and seaming conditions is unparalleled. The only other bowler who even comes close to him in World Cricket is Dale Steyn. I remember Hoggard was good for a period for England as was Gough before him, but no one dominated opposition like Anderson does.
I think we have another two years at least of seeing Anderson at his peak, keeping the wonderful art of swing bowling alive and well.

No second thoughts on that.He really is the best..!!
Good run up to the crease,Rhythmic action, bending the back and the follow through..Everything evident of a world class bowler at the highest level.
He is just another 10 wickets short of crossing Si Botham's record and with the fitness level he is in now,we can expect him to play another 2-3 yrs..
Jimmy
Dale
Mitch
Morkel
They all are have transcended a level..

Simon Jones could have been the best but for injury.
2005 Ashes showed what a genius that lad was.
An English bowling attack with Jimmy, Simon, Broad, Tremlett/ Finn would ahve been awsome.
Botham managed to get wickets with poor balls whereas Jimmy is a real swing bowler. Yesterday saw some fantastic swing bowling.
However one of the best swing bowlers I have seen was Richard Ellison.
What Botham had which none have had since is attitude and trickery.
All of that said and given Jimmy's longevity he is certainly far better than Botham ever was.
