Why don't they change Test match cricket to make it a bit more exciting, a bit more attractive also?
Why, for instance, do they not change the rules governing wide deliveries so that the ball is bowled more regularly at the batsman? Why do they not make the boundaries shorter thus enticing the batsmen to go for them, and why do they not shorten the Test match and rule that it must be finished instead of it playing to a draw?

Test cricket is unique in the world of sport. It is unpredictable and almost organic in nature. The last few test matches around the world have been really exciting ( SL v England, India V England and SA v SL) however that is not to say that a slow test match is boring. It requires someone who understands the nuances of cricket to really enjoy each subtle aspect of test cricket.

BECAUSE IT WOULD BECOME LIKE A 5 DAY T20 then...
1.Bowling a wide delivery gives the bowler some breathing space if he gets thwacked. If he keeps bowling it towards the batsman,he will ultimately aim to hit him out..Thats not what Test cricket is all about..It is about patience and willingness to stay in the crease and IRRITATE the bowlers..
2.Making the boundaries shorter..?? Oh..then why not make it 4 overs per bowler..NO SENSE in your pt at all..!!!
Let it remain as it is..It is interesting for us and for everyone.Probably you have just now started watching tests...

Wanna make Jurassic Age cricket more "exciting"? Night matches with white balls and each side gets 200 overs maximum per match. You use
150 overs in your first innings you only get 50 your second innings. Can still have declarations and follow-ons. At least you'll get a result and the
stands won't be so empty you can hear a mouse fart. :-[

The idea looks interesting with the constraints in place.I am for this, but there needn't be any restrictions over that 200 overs.A team can use it over 2 innings with no limitations.

I'm not sure I like the idea of making test cricket more "exciting". Although I appreciate something like 20/20 and the dynamic approach to the game it creates, I actually like the longer form of the game. There is something to be said for really working your opponent out over a long period or a batsman who can hang around all day for not many just because the situation calls for it.

Because it is test cricket.
We already have T20 and ODIs if you want different wide rules and shorter boundaries.
Test is exactly what it says on the tin, endurance over 5 days. Test of technique, guile and ability overcoming changing pitch conditions over an extended period of time.

That's it exactly. Do we really need a longer version of T20? No, test cricket offers a different challenge and asks different questions of teams. I understand that today everything is supposed to go quickly and be "dynamic", "constantly changing" or whatever, but that doesn't mean that there is no place for test cricket.
