there have been bowler captains before..for england too...a couple of the best...
Ray Illingworth and another pacer back in the fifties.
we have had Daniel Vettori recently..a decent captain
in the circumstance Anderson is the best man. it wont be for long anyway, because my intent would be to bring back Cook next time..next year is it?

It really is a
Fallacy :
Bowlers are the thinking members of your side :
always thinking ....how to uproot ....the Batsman....
"Is he prodding forward....a short pitch for him to look up ?? "
"Rib injury .....direct a bouncer to rib cage ....senn he back , HURT ? "
"Like most right handers he love to pull ...set a man there for catch down he throat ? "
et cetera .....et cetera

the Oz had Ian johnston and Richie Benaud
The Paks had Kardar who was close enuff. I dont remember if Fazal Mahmood ever captained Pakisran
its nutten but prejudice old and lonstanding prejudice... that keeps bowlers away from the captaincy of test sides

long time ago batsmen were all gentlemen..and the bowlers all labour... under the euphemism players. if you were a player you were a working class man and not fit for the captaincy
dat crap is still with us

the gentlemen batsmen were all aristocrats and 'entitled' to and for the captaincy

Indeed they have.
It's something that I don't particularly like.
Illingworth did regain the ashes on the back of John Snow's splendid bowling. But WI put a licking on England and that cost Illingworth his job.
Anderson is a dickhead so if England want a dickhead as captain they are very welcome.

I fully agree with you on Carberry. I think he can feel hard done by. At 33 his chances of getting a foot back in the Test team is going to be difficult, unless the impossible happens and Cook is dropped.
You really hit the nail on the head with Ian Bell. He is a nice accompanying player but not a stand out number 3 IMO.
