A record last-wicket partnership between James Anderson and Joe Root, and two late wickets, gave England an outside chance of an extraordinary victory over India in the first Test.

No,this test is headed to a draw and what they both did ensured england does not lose the test.it was a rescue act,a huge one, from 202-7 to 496.
India are on 167-3 at the end of Day 4,and they will be pretty much batting throughout the day and wear down the bowlers.
it is a draw, and i am pretty sure it is headed towards one unless there are collapses from both sides.

This was a rather benign end to a test match that will be best remembered for two century 10th wicket partnerships. Dhoni played things as safe as possible and sadly, the game petered out into a boring draw. Dhoni's safety first attitude really deprived at least some excitement at the end. Still not sure why he didn't declare and have a go at England.
