Sri Lanka offspinner Sachithra Senanayake has been banned from international cricket for an illegal bowling action. According to Sri Lanka Cricket, the ICC experts analysed footage of his bowling from the fourth ODI against England last month and found the bowler's elbow exceeded the 15-degree extension threshold.
SLC on Saturday said it has received a report from the ICC on the matter. "The Standard ICC Illegal Action Testing Protocol was used to assess the degree of elbow extension from the point of upper arm horizontal to ball release within the bowling action," SLC said.
"The 15-degree elbow extension threshold was exceeded in the four deliveries considered to be suspect in the 4th ODI played at Lord's.
"The report concludes that Sachithra [Senanayake] bowled with an illegal bowling action and consequently he is banned from bowling in international cricket, effective immediately."
The ICC recently informed the Sri Lankan board that it was looking at Senanayake's bowling action following complaints from the umpires officiating at the fourth ODI.
SLC also informed the issue will be referred to its working committee. Senanayake was part of Sri Lanka's World T20 win in Bangladesh earlier this year. He also received plenty of headlines for his "mankading" of England wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler in the aforementioned ODI series.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

Oh WOW, that was just outta the blue. I expected perhaps correction at worst, but an outright ban? So is he done now?
What a shame for SL - he was easily their best spinner amongst the rest, at least in limited over formats.

Good that ICC has started its crackdown on players with illegal action and it is all happening because of srinivasan.. (Chuckle)
On topic : SL will be need to be cautious before bringing him back to the International arena. If he is found guilty again,he will be banned for a year.In fact when he was reported for chucking in that 4th ODI(4 times to be precise). He has appealed against the decision i guess, the testing will happen after 14 days with the BRG.

Yeah true. How long is this ban - until he gets it "fixed" is it?
I think ICC has given a free pass to many a chuckers over the years. I have no idea how their method works, but whatever.
Senanayake does chuck, mind. At least seemed so to the naked eye.

The ban won't be revoked unless he gets to please the BRG that his action is actually legit. He can appeal against the decision within 14 days and I guess he called for a re-bio-mechanical test.
Even Cook when he bowled yesterday, looked like he chucked with that wicket taking ball.

After that Jos Buttler runout I don't like this guy anymore. Srilankan bowlers are always come under bowling action problems. Muralidharan, Malinga, Senanayake etc.

Muralidharan proved he wasn't a chucker and malinga defined a new term slinger,if they can prove it to them then they are legit with their action. It is wrong to describe their actions to be faulty even after they have proven they are right.
I hope senanayake too does the same.
WRT Butler run out,he warned him twice, but still he didnt heed.It is not wrong on his part.Butler should have heeded to that warning.
