Pataudi CERTAINLY deserves a mention. He is widely regarded so by many Indians anyway.
I think it's a toss up between him and Ganguly. As much as the twat irritated me - I think considering the context when she's taken over the team and all, he's done a terrific team building a team.

I have never watched the others captaining their sides.I have had the chance to only watch Dhoni and Ganguly.
Ganguly : built the indian team strongly and sowed the seeds for dhoni to reap.
Dhoni : Rallied the team around to take them to the top of the table in all forms of cricket...
For me both are good, but can't be compared.
Best ever captain in the world..!! Ricky ponting..

It's a difficult one to pick. Kapil Dev led Indians to the world cup when they were a team like Bangladesh. Dhoni has numerous achievements under his belt. But I love Saurav Ganguly the most. He was like a lion in the pitch and made the Indian cricket stronger and deeper.

Wadekar won an overseas series in the Caribbean and followed up by winning a series in England (I think).
At least he has to be in the discussion.

Wadekar is being ignored because some folks have no idea who he is or what he accomplished for Indian test cricket.
