INDIANAPOLIS, JULY 1
Quoting the International Cricket Council governance statute 3.1, Cricket Australia said that the official position of the United States of America Cricket Association is "under threat."
Writing under sub-heading 'American Civil War', Cricket Australia said "The United States of America Cricket Association has been put on notice by the ICC following the rise of a second national governing body; the American Cricket Federation (ACF).
"According to ICC governance statute 3.1, members must demonstrate they have a sole recognised governing body for their country and the ACF’s presence, and its recent success, puts USACA’s official position under threat.
"If the situation is not rectified within 12 months, USACA will be suspended – with the risk of removal if they can’t establish themselves as the sole governing body within a further 12 months."
According to Cricket Australia, "the notice is yet another blow for the embattled organisation, whose crippling debts are in stark contrast to the financial situation of their unofficial rivals."
Sports gear manufacturer Newberry has recently signed on as the naming-rights sponsor for the ACF’s 40-over competition and will provide uniforms and equipment for its teams. Over the last 12 months, USACA has reportedly lost close to a third of their league members to the unofficial ACF.
USACA THANKS ICC FOR ITS SUPPORT: Meanwhile, USACA and its many members formally acknowledged the ICC’s stated recognition of USACA in the recently held annual general body conference in Melbourne, as the official body responsible for the development and management of cricket at all levels in the United States; from youth to women’s development, men’s domestic competitive cricket and international representation of various teams.
USACA website said " The announcement of the forthcoming vote on the new US cricket constitution in August 2014 is an important watershed in the development of the sport in the country. The board looks forward to getting continued feedback from over 45 leagues in the US that have already been active in their inputs for the new constitution."
"The board, active players, coaches, leagues, fans and regions are excited about the future of working with the new ICC board and the new first chairman, Mr Narayanaswami Srinivasan as well as the continued support and partnership with both the West Indian Cricket Board and New Zealand Cricket. The board would also like to thank Mr. Alan Isaac at the ICC for his leadership and help with USACA over the last year, and welcome Mr. Mustafa Kamal as the new president."
For more information on the dates for the forthcoming periods of review and inputs for the new governance models and the forthcoming national youth tournament, sponsored by Next Productions, as well as the national men’s championship are available at USACA.org.
