Test cricket legend Sir Garfield Sobers will return to the top of the order next month as the speaker at the inaugural Lions Sporting Dinner.

Mr Sobers is famous for his illustrious career with the West Indies between 1954 and 1974, resulting in him being voted the Wisden ‘Cricketer of the Century’ in 2000.

He was also the first player to hit six consecutive sixes in an over, a record which stood for 16 years.

The 77-year-old will be a guest speaker for Coventry Leofric Lions Club on Thursday, June 19, which will be raising funds for the Prince’s Trust to support young entrepreneurs in the Coventry and Warwickshire area.

The event will take place at Coombe Abbey Hotel.

Nick Button, a partner of local solicitors Band Hatton Button who is assisting in organising the event for the Lions, said: “It will be an exciting evening, raising money for an excellent local cause.

”We are delighted that a true sporting legend will be joining us and giving us an insight into his life as one of cricket’s greatest icons.”
