With Merry Boys already clinching the Shanghai Construction Group (SCG) Premier Division title in the penultimate round of the competition last weekend, attention will now turn to the other end of the table as the bottom teams battle to avoid relegation. The last three teams will be demoted at the end of the season.
Seenath’s Auto Bamboo Sports (80 points) will finish last on the standings while Moosai Sports (110), and CLICO Preysal (112) are the other two teams in the relegation zone heading into the final round which bowls off at 10 a.m. today and continues from 9.30 a.m. tomorrow.
Moosai face seventh-placed Jenexcon Tableland (122) at Honeymoon Park in El Dorado in their final League game while Preysal tackle fifth-placed Esmeralda Sports at Esmeralda Recreation Ground in their final round match.
Ninth-placed Munroe Road (116) are just four points ahead of Preysal and they will have to get the better of dethroned champions PowerGen Penal at Munroe Road Ground this weekend to ensure they don’t slip down into the relegation zone.
The same goes for eighth-placed Alescon Comets (120) who face Caldrac Club at Pierre Road in Charlieville this weekend. Comets will be hoping for another solid batting display from former national Under-19 batsman Andy Gobin, who slammed 134 in their first innings win over Moosai last week.
But Comets will be in for tough fight with the Caldrac batsmen in top form with Franklyn Rouse (116 not out), Mark Deyal (100) and Neil Williams (102) all getting to triple figures in their previous match.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
