Good job Darren. You played with passion and commitment. You took a team which was in decline and had to lead test squads comprising mainly rookie players since some of the most experienced players were unavailable for various reasons. The standard of first class cricket in the West Indies has to improve before there is any appreciable improvement in the test performance. The pitches are low and slow and the four-day season is much too short. Today's West Indies test captain is asked to do so much with so little. You tried your best and that is all that could have been asked of you given the resources at your disposal.Best wishes for the future!

Its a pity that the talent was not there to match the "passion and commitment".
And within the last year or two that "passion and commitment" to Windward Islands cricket seems to have disappeared the with call of IPL and other T20 leagues.

He was PLANTED by his fellow Lucians ,Hillaire and Hunte.
Passion and Commitment
is on display by his Quitting :
when he now has to fight for a Spot on the Test XI

I would agree - however he can't be blamed for that. He's just a limited player. It's the job of the goddamn selectors to get rid of players who don't perform well. I have no idea why he gets so much hate. I thought it was just for fun, but people seem to really hate him - and he mostly is such a decent bloke. That just seems pretty irrational to me.

Never know why he has been on the hate list for many people.True,he was partial to some players and that might have caused it,but overall he was a nice cricketer with some talent..
.He should have fought for a spot in the XI instead of quitting. This isn't true sportsmanship.

While I didn't really like his approach to captaincy, this fella had some serious talent packed in him waiting to explode. But quitting is not an option, especially when you have not been dong good in last couple of seasons.

You ever see Sammy stand up for any player?? Did he stand up for Shiv or Gayle or whoever?
And he still peddling lies about bringing stability to the side.
Selectors? Sammy was not made captain by the selectors - he was made captain by Hunte and Hilaire. And if Hunte and Hilaire had stayed the selectors would not have had the balls to drop him no matter how bad his test performances.

Maybe , BUT he accepted an INDECENT proposal !
The St. Lucian mafia of Hunte and Hillaire made him a proposal :
which he " decently " accepted.
Unheard of "contract " Captaincy for 3 years in exchange for :
Shiv , Sarwan and Gayle's victimisation.
hell , Hillaire himself called Sarwan directly to BAWL and CUSS him out :
according to Sarwan he felt helpless against these SAVAGES !
and stayed in his Parents home for 1 month contemplating ....

I like Sammy and it's sad to see him go but his selection on the team caused an imbalance. It's in the best interest of WI cricket for him to leave.
Kudos to him for giving it his all while at the helm.

In my view there is no cricketing kudos due to Sammy, irrespective of how hard he tried.
He simply was not good enough, decided to sink others, ride the gravy train for as long as he could and the team and Windies cricket are no better for it.
It fact it is worse for his presence and now Windies are more behind the curve than before.
Debacle really. Nearly 4 years.
Let us see if Ramdin is afforded the same luxury.
I suspect not.
Best of luck to Ramdin.
Best of luck to Sammy and his family but good riddance, you have sponged enough.
