Graham Gooch has been sacked as England's batting coach, the first of England's backroom staff to lose his job since Peter Moores returned, after Alastair Cook decided the set-up needed a new face.
Cook, who has used Gooch as a mentor throughout his career, discussed his decision with him beforehand and the England captain later said he hoped players would still seek out Gooch who is England's Test run-scorer and has been involved with English cricket for almost 40 years as a player through to various coaching and advisory roles.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.

Alaistair Cooke is right about needing new faces, especially in the position of captain, a role he has made blatantly obvious he is not suited. He is a good opening batsman but an awful captain.

Supercat,
I totally agree on Cooky's captaincy. He is an excellent opener and on that he should focus. He is gaumless, lacks vision, very reactive and does not seem to be learning quickly.
That said, Flower was a very rigid coach so Moores may make a difference.

Gooch has paid the price for England’s dreadful batting in the Ashes whitewash, but Cook insisted: “I would never degrade the work Goochie has done - the coaches prepare you as best as they can, but once you cross the white line it’s down to the players to perform.
“We’re not blaming him because we couldn’t score 400 - we just felt we needed a few fresh faces. A lot of the players have a great relationship with him, on a one-to-one basis, not just me.
"I hope those guys will feel free to go and work with Goochie because we all know the work he does is outstanding.â€
