Ketchim,
Shiv is a professional cricketer and no excuse for age. If at 40 he is not up to it then it is time to call it a day. However Shiv has a lot yet to give.
I did express my concern about Shiv's SR and the impact he may have on the rest of the team. The fact is these guys are not in Shiv's league.

Cali,
Points he well taken and duly noted.
Whilst I acknowledge your opinion, I disagree that shiv should bat wherever he wants. He should bat where is best for the team and that is 3. Thee he can do his things not have to constantly bat with the tail.
I will always have my best batsman at 3 and in the case of the Windies, that is Shiv.
Anyway I digress and we have moved away from the Derby season.

so I can conclude that you thought Kanhai (at 3) was a better batsman than Sobers (at 6).
correct?

Ketchy,
Are you being a bit insular here?
Happy to debate the issues and absorb your perspective and comparisons but it has nothing to do with nationality. I do not care one jot who holds whatever record.
I note your comments and I maintain my position, Shiv needs to dominate more and I say so in context. 2-2, you are not expecting him to come out blazing but he has to pick it up as he presses on as great batsmen do.
I just wish he had converted his scores.

Googs,
I do not think it is a similar comparison but I think as a specialist batsman, in a team containing Sobers, the all rounder, it was appropriate for the best specialist batsman to come in at 3.
However looking at the current team, it is highly likely observes will conclude Shiv is the best Test batsman.

That's 2 conceptual positions you rolling into 1 :
Strike Rate does NOT a guarantee Conversion Rate of a 50 to a 100

Separate point Old Fruit.
Shiv should be bullying these Div II bowlers am bit more once a foundation is set.
I do wish him the best for the season. For me a measure of his success would be to get Derby. Loser to the top, a job the overseas is always expected to do.
