Berbice…Baldeo 112*, Sukhwa 83* guide Albion into semis; Achievers also through
Recently resumed competition in the 2013 Tenelec Inc. Under-17 cricket tournament saw Albion Community Centre and Achievers advancing to the semi finals.
At Albion, Albion Community Centre won the toss and sent in Blairmont Community Centre to take first strike and very quickly sent them packing for a paltry 36 in their first innings. For Albion, Asif Ally picked up 3-6 from 2.2 overs, Kevendra Persaud 3-7 from 6 overs and Balchand Baldeo 2-8 from 6 overs.
In response, Albion rattled up 200 without loss; Baldeo, who represented Guyana last year at the Under-17 level slammed an unbeaten 112 and Guyana Under-15 batsman Adrian Sukhwa was also undefeated on 83 by the end of the first of the two-day game.
Sukhwa did not get the opportunity to register his first century nor did Albion get the chance to increase their lead as Blairmont Community Centre, probably daunted by the enormity of their task to even draw the match, did not show up for the second day’s play.
Blairmont will now have to face the Competition’s Committee of the Berbice Cricket Board at a disciplinary meeting.
In the other quarter final contested at the No.5 Ground, West Berbice Acheivers defeated Police by 47 runs with a day to spare. Winning the toss and taking first strike, Achievers were bowled out for 123 in their first innings, bowling for Police, Leon Andrews took 5-77, Clifton Lindee 3-23 and Tyrell Peters 2-21.
Police in reply could only muster 82 in their first innings, Guyana Under-17 pacer Grisean Grant snapped up 3-25 and Osbert Gain 2-3. With a first innings lead of 41, Achievers batted a second time and made 104-6 declared. Grant led with 30 and Titus Webster 26. Leon Andrews took 2-36 for Police.
Police, set a target of 145 for an outright win were bowled out for 97. Andrews again led with 41. Randy Wade had figures of 5-3 from 3 overs and Osbert Gain 3-29.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
