FORMER West Indies ‘A’ manager, Colin Borde, has slammed the cavalier approach by some of the Trinidad and Tobago batsmen during the final of the Nagico Super50 tournament on Saturday at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port-of-Spain.
Chasing 253 for victory against Barbados, opener Evin Lewis (27), Yannick Ottley (0) and Dwayne Bravo (6) were all dismissed playing expansive shots as TT slumped to 75 for four in 12.5 overs. Despite a rearguard effort of 68 from 76 balls from Denesh Ramdin, the Red Force fell short of their target to be bowled out for 235 in 45.5 overs.
“I don’t think the approach was as measured as it should have been. You had some injudicious shots when it’s 50 overs and 300 balls available. There was no reason to go on an all out attack. If we had been more circumspect we would have gotten home,†he explained.
Borde noted that one of the top four batsmen should have tried to bat through the innings which would have made the chase less difficult.
“The key was one senior batsman should bat through to the end. Ramdin did it but that was down the order and too late. Assessing the game and reacting to circumstances is important in cricket,†he added.
