Mystery surrounded the fitness of Boyd Rankin following the first day's play in Sydney after the fast bowler was twice forced from the pitch on his first day as a Test cricketer.

Very, very strange one this. Cramping up after eight overs on the first day of the match in temperatures in the mid twenties would show a remarkable lack of fitness. Looked very much like a hamstring strain. English medical team trying to cover themselves after sending him out to bowl again only to see him break down after one ball?
