Jerome Taylor named in Squad for US Cricket Open

jerome Taylor, the former West Indies and Jamaica fast bowler, after being under the radar for about a year, is named in one of the 40 squads to compete in the US Cricket Open. Taylor last played for the West Indies in June of 2010 and for Jamaica in March of 2011.  Since then he has featured in squads for various T20 tournaments around the world. His last major tournament appearance was in the Sri Lanka Premier league in August 2012.

The Jamaican quickie was sidelined by the West Indies selectors due to fitness issues after he last represented the Caribbean team. Since then he has found it difficult to maintain a place in the Jamaica team and was never considered for West Indies selection. Taylor last spoke to the media in May of 2012 indicating that he has recovered from the back injury which has kept him out of the game, “Everything is feeling all right. I am just going through the paces, taking my time not to rush back to anything but also making sure no stone is left uncovered.”

He is named in the Punjab Lions team for the $100,000 cash prize tournament scheduled for December 5th – 8th in Florida, USA. A host of familiar names related to West Indies and Regional cricket are listed in squads to participate in the tournament including Mahendra Nagamootoo, Rayad Emrit, Ricardo Powell, Adam Sanford, Darren Powell, Shawn Findlay, William Perkins, Jermain Lawson , Neil McGarrell, Mervyn Dillon who have previously played for the West Indies.
