This is a dangerous gamble. You would think that Flower who is now advising the Lions would know that. That is what he told us - that he had been monitoring Trott since 2009. However he didn't appear to recognise that Trott was in real trouble in 2013. Can you imagine what his team mates must feel who witnessed his breakdown in the dressing room during the first Ashes Test? Trott is not a guinea pig to prove someone right or wrong. Trott is a vulnerable player who has just resurrected his career after a painful start. Wisely Warwickshire withdrew him from the front line and he played himself in very slowly.
The ECB believe in the deep end apparently if they are thinking ahead to the Ashes. Flower never admitted that he was wrong. He doesn't appear to be aware of the simplest things. That Cook is a poor captain and that Trott couldn't cope when exposed to failure. I understand that Trott's fans want him back. Tresco still has the same calls. But Trescothick learnt his lesson - the second time around.

Is there any real point in this? He collapsed under pressure when playing against top end fast bowling. What do have coming next summer? The very same fast bowling. So unless the ground staff are going to prepare literal pudding pitches or Johnson promises to keep it under 85mph it will not be pretty.
It is not that he struggled to score runs in 3 games & was dropped. He looked like Tuffers going through a bad patch and just plain terrified. If he had been selected for the next couple of games & gone to Perth I would have thought even the Aussies would have lost any sense of fulfilment in taking his wicket.
If he plays in the Summer I fear he could get hurt. If you are afraid of heights you don't chuck yourself of a skyscraper
