SHIV CHANDERPAUL: Was Hugely Disappointing

Shiv Chanderpaul was hugely disappointing last night----that ball from Ashwin that nailed him LBW for 41 was nothing special---Shiv just decided to be a coward and play with his pad instead of his bat---he kept the bat hidden behind his pad----that was downright stupid---he was looking well set to score the 78 needed for 11,000 until his silly dismissal. Oh well, Shiv needs 37 runs to reach 11,000. But the rate at which he is crawling, he may not get to 11,954 until his 50th birthday. >:(

SHIV'S NUMBERS:

* After 150 tests Shiv Chanderpaul has scored 10,963 runs at an average of 51.71 with 28 hundreds and 61 fifties.

* Shiv needs 37 runs to become the 7th player to score 11,000 runs.

* Shiv needs 212 runs to surpass Alan Border and become the 6th highest run scorer in test history

* Then Shiv will set his eyes set on Brian Lara's 11,953

* Hopefully by his 50th birthday Shiv will surpass Lara.

Shiv Chanderpaul should be honoured, not critized. He is a stalwart of  what West Indian Cricket is all about; pride, determination and committment. He makes run cosistently when all around him fails. Good on you shiv.

Bhai Rick:

* I see you are new here!

* Ask the folks here about the Rev.

* They will tell you that apart from the esteemed Chairman---Rev is the biggest supporter of the Tiger.

* So my criticisms of Shiv are always constructive.

BOTTOM LINE:

Shiv got out foolishly last night---he decided not to play a shot----the man was well set---and looked certain to reach 11,000 last night.

This series in India has been the most aberrant experience I have ever had following Test Cricket.

Notwithstanding the squad and captaincy issue, the chosen eleven on any given day could and should have competed better.

To have been defeated in under three days, twice, underlines major issues for a well established management structure.

Chanderpaul has shown his toughness time and time again but, yes, he failed in what he does best, shot selection and endurance.

The thread is about Chanderpaul being disappointing so one can only concur, especially in the very, very soft ways he succumbed for a man of such high standards.

It is possible his lack of International Cricket and his omission from the ODI team has affected him adversely. He seems the type of cricketer who needs to play 24-7.

I have no real information, but I will not be surprised if he has now become vulnerable.

Easy Rider:

* Shiv has averaged 69.29 in 49 tests since Jan 2007---the highest average of any batsman the past 7 years

* But Shiv is now 39 years old

* And he struggled earlier this year in county cricket---averaging only 38 for Derbyshire

BOTTOM LINE:

Shiv scores in India---36, 31*, 25, 41----those scores may be a reflection of an aging Shiv---you're right---he may have become vulnerable---but let's wait until the upcoming NZ series----if Shiv continues to put up those 20s/30s/ and 40s----instead of 50s and 100s----then we'll know the truth----his best days are behind him.

HERE IS STEVE WAUGH FROM TEST 151 to 168

* Keep in mind that Shiv and Waugh are the same kind of players.

BOTTOM LINE:

If Shiv could emulate Steve Waugh---and there is no reason why he should not---Shiv has averaged 69+ in his last 49 tests---but going forward if Shiv could match Stave Waugh----then clearly Lara's 11,953 will be overtaken waaaaaaay before Shiv reaches 50 . ;D

I won't blame Shiv alone, everyone stinked balls this series. But yeah, he's had a dire series. I don't know. Next series vs NZ right? I think he has a better chance there.

* Shiv averaged 44.33 in the 2 tests against India; Bravo 25.00; Samuels 24.75; Gayle 24.25; Sammy 6.25

* So Shiv's 44.33 average was, indeed, dire

* Compared to his 69 average over the past 7 years---a 44.33 series average is embarrassing. ;D

stats.espncricinfo.com/india-v-west-indi...1;team=4;type=series

BOTTOM LINE:

Shiv will have to step things up from his dire 44.33 average against India---hopefully he improves against NZ.

This  whole series against India is artificial and an aberration and must be discarded
