Sierra Leone and Liberia Cricketers sign memo

The Sierra Leone Cricket Association (SLCA) and the Liberia National Cricket Federation (LNCF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone.

The purpose of the MoU is to promote peace, security and development between the two countries as both are members of the Mano River Union (MRU).

The MoU, states that “both countries shall coordinate cricket development activities and encourage other countries of the MRU to establish the game in their respective nations”.

The Sierra Leone Cricket Association shall provide coaching and other resource assistance to Liberia including umpiring and groundmanship. Sierra Leone will also educate Liberians on ways and means to produce cricket equipment locally made in Sierra Leone and introduce the Liberian cricket team to other cricket playing nations in Africa.

Sierra Leone, the MoU states, will advise and guide Liberia to become a member of the African Cricket Association (ACA) and the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Additionally, the Sierra Leone Cricket Association and the Liberia National Cricket Federation shall convene biennial or annual conferencs on a rotational basis including but not limited to seminars, workshops and administrative activities for the mutual benefit of the two countries.

To launch the cricket series between the Sierra Leone Cricket Team A and that of Liberia Team A would be hosted rotationally for the MRU trophy.

The format of the said series would be decided and may initially comprise of three/twenty matches and may additionally include multi-day matches if and when appropriate.

Similar series shall also be mooted between the aged and junior of the two countries, the agreement stipulates.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by the Chairman of the Sierra Leone Cricket Association, Beresford Bournes-Coker and Michael N. Nyanneh who is founder and President of the Liberia National Cricket Association.
