Lara turning wheels for Nepal

KATHMANDU: Former West Indies cricketer Brian Lara has already made up his mind to visit Nepal next month, according to a tweet from the left handed legendary batsman.

Lara — who holds a world record of the highest individual score (400 not out against England in 2004) by any batsman in Test cricket — tweeted late on Tuesday that he is geared up for his first visit to Nepal. “Wheels now turning to bring about my first visit to Nepal. Looking forward to meeting all cricketers. What about a Visa? Will check on that, ” Lara tweeted.

His latest tweet came six hours after he asked Nepali fans giving a proposed date of his visit on November 11-12. “My Nepalese friends what about two day visit between the first and second test match between West Indies and India? Dates 11th and 12th November,” his twitter post on Tuesday evening read.

If Lara comes to Nepal, he would become the third legendary cricketer in the world to visit the himalayan country after India’s Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar. The 1983 World Cup winning captain Dev visited Nepal during the Tempo Legends Cup in May, 1999 and Gavaskar came on a holiday in December, 2005.

Lara’s idea of visiting Nepal, however, has not come spur of the moment. The Trinidad and Tobago batsman had been showing interest in Nepal and its cricket after he watched the national team play the World Cricket League Division-III in Bermuda in May. In May he had shown his eagerness to visit Nepal saying it was in his bucket list. “Up @ 3am in the morning going to read a little about Nepal, going there is on my bucket list. This year…”, Lara had tweeted then.
