West Indies coach Ottis Gibson said the upcoming Test and ODI series against India will say something about his team's true standing in international cricket.

The West Indians last played a Test match back in November 2012 against Bangladesh, three months after defeating New Zealand, a team still in transition. However, with the two-Test series scheduled to start from November 6, Gibson, also a former West Indies pace bowler said though it would be tough to beat India, there is no reasons why his wards would not be able to achieve success.

"This series against India gives us an opportunity to see where we are as a Test side. We've played some pretty good Test cricket, there's a lot that's been said about winning the last six.

"People have also spoken about the opposition so the India tour gives us an opportunity to test ourselves against them. We are looking forward to that challenge and continue our winnings ways."

West Indies had last toured India in 2011 and were beaten comprehensively in the first two matches before they hung on for only the second draw in the history of the game with scores tied. Gibson draws inspiration from that tour two years ago and hopes the likes of Chris Gayle, who was out of the squad then, will make a difference this time.

"We are not saying we cannot beat India, but we know it is going to be tough. The last time we went to India, we had a couple of inexperienced guys and we put up a good show. So hopefully this time with a bit more experience, we can go one better and win the series. There is no reason why we can't," Gibson told reporters in Bridgetown.
