The captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team has urged the Sri Lankan Cricket Board (SLC) to resolve its financial problems and said that cricket officials must pay salaries to the cricketers so that they can focus on the game.
Sri Lankan cricket is going through a political crisis since the last one year and the instability is quite evident, as the performance of the Islanders on the field reflects. There have been many changes in the cricket board and the selection panel as well.
On top of that, the Sri Lankan cricket authority is facing a financial crisis as well and as a result, the players have not received their salaries for a long period of time.
The Captain feels that until or unless the cricket authorities resolve their issues and pay the cricketers, players will not be able to concentrate on the game. He warned the Sri Lankan cricket authority that if it does not take care of its players, then the players will look at alternative avenues to earn money apart from cricket.
The Sri Lankan captain said, “Financially it is a burden for some of the guys, so we need to make sure they’ve got that security, knowing that they will get paid, so we can keep their focus on their game. There’s a lot of opportunities for cricketers to earn a significant amount of money, in fact more than they can playing for their board, in other countries,â€
THE CAPTAIN feels that it is extremely hard for a player to concentrate on the game if he has financial issues back home and emphasized that the SLC must make use of all its resources to solve this issue as soon as possible.
“They’ve got families, they’ve got mouths to feed, they’ve got mortgages to pay etc, then they’ll look at their opportunities. That would be a tragic situation for SLC. They desperately need to do something,†said THE captain.
Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
