According to the news agency's dispatches, one memorandum suggested that Vibert Mingo

the Minister of Finance, had ordered Guyanese police to halt an investigation in Jonestown.

Another suggested that Mr. Mingo had promised Mr. Jim Jones to protect the cult leader

against arrest in a child custody case.

Clairmont Mingo
late Friday night declared A Partnership for National Unity+Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC)

the winner of the general and regional elections in Region Four.

The Region Four results declared Friday night differ slightly from those that were subsequently scrapped

by the High Court earlier this week. Those stated that APNU+AFC got 136,335 and PPPC 77,258.

Now that the declaration for Region Four has been made, they have to be submitted to the Chief Elections Officer

Keith Lowenfield who will prepare a report and submit it to the seven-member commission for approval.

If all goes well, David Granger will be sworn in for a second straight term by next week.

Shortly after the declaration, Mingo was escorted out

of the GECOM High and Cowan streets head office by heavily armed police at 11:06 pm.

He was reportedly surrounded by 25 armed policemen shortly after the declaration.

GHK Lall : Guyanese author, columnist and former financial analyst on Wall Street.

I must be true to myself.

I no longer have any patience, nor any interest, in what emerges from this fiasco cum disaster cum tragedy
in the making called final official elections outcome. I could care less who wins, who ascends victoriously;
that means nothing to me now.
What I do know, as I have said repeatedly, is that when an eventual winner is declared, that all of Guyana
would lose and lose unimaginably. That may not matter to all of the rest of Guyana, but it does to me
For I must be true to what I stand for, what I believe in, and what I would like to think that I represent.

Mohabir Anil Nandlall:

It is now twelve, midday, and the recount agreed upon last night at Gecom, to commence today, has not yet started. Thus far, there is no indication when there is likely to be a start. The dithering has begun.

I just learnt that someone from the Secretariat Staff requesting the Authur Chung Convention Centre, where the recount is to be done, be fumigated. The High Court building was fumigated Friday last and could not be used for over 2 days thereafter. This is the mischief machine in GECOM Secretariat carrying out veiled political directions from APNU/AFC.

The Secretary General of CARICOM is right next door I hope he informs his principals of the stalling. I hope that this process does not lose the public confidence which it now enjoys. If the procrastination continues the hemorrhaging of public confidence would begin.

These fanciful excuses by the Secretariat Staff must be rejected now and the recount commences with every convenient speed.

Always tell someone how you feel because opportunities are lost in the blink of an eye but regret can last a lifetime.
